Once again, a strike among Brussels rubbish collectors is urging residents to bring in their uncollected bin bags. Pay special attention to the orange bags for organic waste, as they could become a problem if left out.
Once more, employees at Agence Bruxelles Propreté (ABP) are on strike as planned on Friday, 10 May. This ongoing union action has led to disruptions in rubbish collections across various communes. Despite this, all regional Recyparks are operational, with the exception of Recypark South.
Many residents in the city seem unaware of the strike, as numerous households have placed their trash on the street as per their routine. The impact of the strike was assessed by ABP on Friday afternoon, showing significant variation across different municipalities in Belgium.
In several neighborhoods like Etterbeek, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Schaerbeek, and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, most white bags for non-recyclable waste were picked up, ranging from 70% to 85%. However, in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, only half of the white rubbish bags were collected.
In Etterbeek, Molenbeek, and Schaerbeek, most orange bags for organic waste were left on the pavements, while in Koekelberg and Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, about 75% of these bags were successfully collected.
